City of Medina Completes 2025 Deer Management Program
Medina, OH — The City of Medina completed its 2025 Deer Management Program and released results reflecting both progress and ongoing challenges in managing the local deer population.
Following a review of 2024 data, the City implemented several adjustments to the 2025 program. Most notably, additional select open spaces were identified and designated for controlled access hunting. This allowed the Medina Police Department to issue a greater number of archery hunting permits. Thirteen permits were issued in 2024 resulting in the harvest of 18 deer. The expanded 2025 program increased harvest numbers significantly to a total of 114 deer harvested.
A portion of the harvested deer were donated to the Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry program. Meat donations were made at the hunter’s discretion and helped support local food assistance efforts. The City of Medina donated $2,000.00 to Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry to offset the costs associated with processing of the deer. This resulted in over 400lbs of donated venison.
Deer-related vehicle incidents rose in 2025. The Medina Police Department recorded 30 deer-vehicle accidents, representing an increase of 10 incidents compared to 2024. Additionally, the Streets Department and Parks Department collectively removed 140 deer carcasses from roadways and city parkland. This is consistent with the number collected in 2024.
While the City saw measurable improvement in permit issuance and deer harvest totals in 2025, officials acknowledge that challenges remain. The City of Medina will continue to monitor deer population data, track related incidents, and make data-driven adjustments to its deer management program in future years.
