The Medina Civil Service Commission announces collection of applications and testing to create an eligible list for the following classification:
WATER TECHNICIAN
Starting Salary: $23.01-$29.37/hr. PLUS BENEFITS

NATURE OF WORK: Under the direct supervision of the Water Operations Foreman, employees in this classification are responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a variety of equipment and vehicles, and for performing skilled to semi-skilled maintenance and repairs in Water Distribution. Meter installation, reading, and repair. Water Operations monitoring and testing. Grounds/building maintenance. Employees in this classification will participate as part of various crews engaged in any Water department operation as directed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED; Work experience providing knowledge of water utility operations or the equivalent or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Valid commercial driver’s license (Class B minimum) issued by the State of Ohio at time of employment or within one year after hire, and must remain insurable under the City of Medina’s vehicle insurance plan. Class B can be obtained through City of Medina CDL training program during work hours with options for reimbursement for testing after passing. Water Distribution Class I license at the time of employment or within one year after hire is required.
NATURE OF EXAMINATION: The written test is weighted at 100% and will test for mathematical skills, meter reading ability, public relations/working with others, safe driving practices, and knowledge of tools, equipment, and materials. Passing score of 70% is required to be ranked on eligible list and to have extra credit applied.
VETERANS PREFERENCE: Any veteran of the U. S. Armed Forces who has served on active duty for more than 180 consecutive days and has been honorably discharged and who passes the examination may receive additional credit, provided proof of honorable discharge (DD-214) is presented with application.
PROBATION: The probationary period shall be regarded as an integral part of the examination process and shall be used to closely observe the employee's work, to give the employee full opportunity to demonstrate successful performance on the job, and to remove any employee whose performance does not meet required work standards. No appointment shall be deemed final until the appointee has satisfactorily served the probationary period. All original appointments shall be for a probationary period, from first work day, of not less than six months. At the request of the appointing authority, the Commission may extend an employee's probationary period.
