Forestry

The City of Medina has been a proud recipient of the Tree City USA award for the past 40 years. Medina is known for it’s beauty and one aspect of this appeal are the wonderful selection, placement, and management of our trees. The trees add to the appearance to our community and they also add to the value of our homes and properties, reduce storm water run-off, control erosion and improve the air quality.

The Forestry Department is under the direction of Jansen Wehrley, Parks & Recreation Director, and the City Arborist.  The Department also employs a full-time Tree Technician, and two seasonal laborers.

The City Arborist is required to achieve and retain:

  • certified Arborist status through the International Society of Arboriculture.
  • maintain up to date CPR and First Aid cards.
  • perform an aerial lift rescue.
  • perform a climbing rescue.
  • maintain up to date ACRT electrical hazard training certification.
  • participate in an interdepartmental safety program
