Residents/Visitors
Located 33 miles southwest of Cleveland and 25 miles west of Akron, the City of Medina, Ohio, is home to approximately 26,000 residents, and double that number during the workday. Medina is often recognized as one of the top commuinities in the nation in which to live, work, raise family, and spend your retirement years.
This thriving city was founded in 1818, and in 2018, completed its year-long Bicentennial celebration to honor its heritage. In addition, the city was recently selected as one of Ohio’s Best Hometowns by Ohio Magazine, the Best Christmas Town in Ohio by Home & Garden TV in 2023, and one of the Top 20 Best Places to Live in Northeast Ohio in 2024 by Cleveland Magazine. The new Legacy Hotel and Event Center to be completed in 2025 will add amenities to the downtown that will make it even more popular for visitors and tourists.
The city, along with Main Street Medina, focuses on maintaining the late 19th century structures that give the Historic Square area of Medina its Victorian charm. The Square draws thousands of tourists, historians, and event-goers to activities such as the Ice Festival, Candlelight Walk, Medina Square Farmers Market, Fall Fest, and free summer concerts that range from the national award winning Medina Community Band, that dates back to 1895, to Jazz Under the Stars. Stop at city hall or one of Medina's businesses to pick up a Visitors Guide that will list all of these events and more.
The city is home to acclaimed public, parochial, and career-tech schools, one of the best public library systems in the country, an array of world-class healthcare options, and an exceptionally low crime rate. Medina has ready access to a variety of public transportation, housing, and employment options. The city’s diversified employer base features high tech firms, retailers, and manufacturers, as well as local small businesses. A recently completed two-year street improvement project in our North Court Street commercial corridor has created an inviting entrance to the northern city limits. Thriving retail outlets and dining in this area compliment the city's Historic Square, the historic district's shops, and the active historic neighborhood associations.
Residents also enjoy world-class parks, mountain bike and leisure biking trails, our own Community Recreation Center, diverse worship options, and a broad spectrum of community groups in which to become involved. Be sure to visit the Medina 9/11 Memorial that features a section of steel beam from the World Trade Center towers, and a memorial to the American Airlines Flight Crew of Flight #93 that turned over Medina heading for Washington, DC, before crashing in Shanskville, PA.
The City of Medina is the county seat of Medina County, one of the fastest growing counties in the State of Ohio. It's proximity to Cleveland and Akron put is close to sevaral majors sports teams and a theater district second only to New York City.
