School Custodian

The Medina Civil Service Commission is accepting applications on-going in 2023 for consideration to fill various openings in the Custodian classification with the Medina City Schools:

 CUSTODIAN

MEDINA CITY SCHOOLS

                                                Starting Salary: $17.80/hr.  (under negotiation)                                                                                                                                            plus benefits per contract

NATURE OF WORK:  Shall be responsible to the Head Custodian as part of a crew for keeping the school building to which assigned swept, vacuumed, dusted, scrubbed, etc.; loading and unloading of supplies; moving furniture; assisting the maintenance crew when necessary; and doing related work as required.  An employee in this classification may be assigned to work first, second, or third shift and on weekends and holidays. May be full-time or part-time vacancies.

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Able to understand and follow oral and written instructions; good knowledge of the duties required of custodian; some knowledge of general cleaning practices; physical and mental ability to perform the essential functions of the job. High school diploma or equivalent required.  Prior related work experience preferred.

 

NATURE OF EXAMINATION:  The written test is weighted at 100% and will test for knowledge of cleaning practices; weights and measures; mathematics; tools and equipment; basic building maintenance; and working with others.  A passing grade is 70% or above. All test results and scores are subject to public record laws.

APPLICANTS MAY BRING HAND-HELD CALCULATORS FOR USE ON THE WRITTEN EXAM.   

 

VETERANS PREFERENCE: Any veteran of the U. S. Armed Forces who has served on active duty for more than 180 consecutive days and has been honorably discharged and who passes the examination may receive additional credit, provided proof of honorable discharge (DD-214) is presented and verified prior to the date of the examination.

 

PROBATION: All persons appointed to permanent positions are subject to a probationary period of 120 days worked.  The probationary period is an essential part of the examination process used for the effective adjustment of the employee and the elimination of any probationer whose performance fails to meet the required standards of work.
