ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT 
PERMITS
 
The City of Medina Engineering Department coordinates the review and issuance of five different permits
 
(Special Hauling Permit, Road Opening Permit, Ditch Enclosure Permit, Grading Permit, and Pond Permit). 
 
      • Special Hauling Permit  (Reference Codified Ordinance of the City of Medina Part Three, Chapter 339)           
- Any oversized or overweight vehicle utilizing City surface streets must obtain a Special Hauling Permit from the City of Medina Engineering Department prior to entering the City.          
- Oversized or overweight vehicles traveling through the City of Medina on state or federal routes only (not traveling on any City of Medina streets) do not have to obtain a City Special Hauling Permit as long as they obtain a Special Hauling Permit from the Ohio Department of Transportation.           
- Annual Special Hauling Permits may be issued for oversized or overweight vehicles that transport the same load 
(e.g., vehicles carrying the same piece of construction equipment throughout the year).

       Right of Way Permit (Reference Codified Ordinance of the City of Medina Part Nine, Chapter 901)           
- A Road Opening Permit must be obtained by individual or company performing any excavation activity (including drilling, trenching, boring, excavating, etc.) or construction activity (remove/replace sidewalk , driveway apron, etc.) within any City of Medina right-of-way.

     • Ditch Enclosure Permit (Reference Codified Ordinance of the City of Medina Part Thirteen, Chapter 1341)           
- Persons interested in installing or extending a storm sewer (public or private) on their property for the purpose of enclosing an existing ditch must obtain a Ditch Enclosure Permit

     • Grading Permit  (Reference Codified Ordinance of the City of Medina Part Thirteen, Chapter 1341)           
- A Grading Permit must be obtained by any property owner desiring to change the grade or slope of their property in excess of 2,500 square feet.           
- A Grading Permit must also be obtained by any property owner desiring to improve his/her land by the construction, installation or maintenance of sanitary and/or storm sewerage.

     • Pond Permit (Reference Codified Ordinance of the City of Medina Part Thirteen, Chapter 1341)           
- Any property owner interested in installing a pond on private property must obtain a Pond Permit
