Records Department

The Records Department of the Medina Police Department serves as the central repository and custodian of departmental records, ensuring the accurate creation, maintenance, and dissemination of official police documentation. The department plays a vital role in supporting law enforcement operations, safeguarding public information, and maintaining compliance with Ohio law and applicable records retention requirements.

Records personnel are responsible for the timely processing and management of police reports, traffic crash reports, citations, arrest records, and other official documents generated by department personnel. The department ensures records are indexed, stored, and retained in accordance with state law, departmental policy, and established records retention schedules.

In addition to internal support functions, the Records Department serves as the primary point of contact for public records requests. Staff members process requests in a professional, transparent, and lawful manner, balancing the public’s right to access information with the need to protect sensitive, confidential, and exempt records.

The Records Department also supports the criminal justice system by providing accurate and timely information to courts, prosecutors, defense counsel, and allied criminal justice agencies. Through attention to detail, consistency, and confidentiality, the department helps maintain the integrity of investigations and the public’s trust in the Medina Police Department.

The Records Department operates with a commitment to accuracy, accountability, and service, recognizing that reliable records are essential to effective policing, legal compliance, and public confidence.

The Records Department’s operating hours are M-F 8AM to 4PM, excluding holidays.
